Smoke Pellet OPTIONS
How to Choose the Right Smoke Pellet
Choosing the correct smoke pellet depends on the size of the area being tested, the amount of smoke required, visibility conditions and how long you need the smoke to be produced. Smoke pellets are widely used for chimney and flue testing, ventilation and ductwork checks, airflow visualisation and locating potential leaks.
Our range includes different pellet sizes, smoke outputs, colours and burn times, allowing you to select the most suitable option for the job.
Smoke Pellet Size
Smoke pellets are available in 5g, 8g and 13g sizes, with larger pellets generally producing a greater volume of smoke.
Smaller 5g pellets are ideal where a relatively small amount of smoke is required, such as basic chimney and flue checks or smaller enclosed areas.
For applications requiring greater smoke output, an 8g or 13g smoke pellet may be more suitable. These are particularly useful for larger chimneys, ventilation systems, ductwork and areas where the smoke needs to remain clearly visible over a greater distance.
Smoke Volume
The amount of smoke produced is one of the most important factors when selecting a pellet.
Our range includes smoke outputs suitable for approximately 7m³, 15m³, 18m³ and 24m³, depending on the particular pellet.
For small chimney or flue tests, a lower-output pellet may provide all the smoke required. Larger spaces, commercial ventilation systems and longer duct runs may require a higher-output product.
Using an appropriately sized pellet helps provide a clear visual indication without generating considerably more smoke than the test requires.
Smoke Colour
White smoke pellets are the most commonly used option for chimney, flue and general airflow testing. They provide a clear visual indication of air movement and make it easier to identify potential leakage points.
We also offer coloured smoke pellets, including red, orange and purple options.
Coloured smoke can be particularly useful where white smoke may be difficult to see against the surrounding environment or when different test areas need to be identified visually.
Smoke Pellet Burn Time
Burn time determines how long the pellet continues producing smoke.
Depending on the product selected, our smoke pellets offer approximate burn times ranging from 30 to 60 seconds.
Shorter burn times are suitable for quick checks, while longer-burning pellets provide additional time to observe airflow through chimneys, flues, ducts and ventilation systems.
For more complex testing, a longer burn time can make it easier to follow the movement of smoke and identify where it exits the system.
Need Help Choosing?
If you are unsure which smoke pellet is suitable for your application, consider the size of the area, required smoke volume, preferred colour and burn time. For professional chimney testing, airflow visualisation or leak detection, choosing the correct pellet will provide a clearer and more useful test result.
